Should I get pharmacogenomic testing even though I'm not currently taking medications?More than 66 percent of all adults in the United States are currently taking some form of prescription medication. That means there is a good chance you will need to take medication at some point in your life. Being able to anticipate your reaction to specific medications can be a valuable tool for getting the best and safest results from prescription drugs.

I had side effects after taking a medication that was listed as okay for me to take. Can you tell me why?When a medication is flagged in the "standard precautions" section of your results, that medication can be expected to at least be effective and have typical side effects. The reality is that side effects can occur when taking any medication. With testing, you are getting insights regarding the efficacy and likeliness of side effects based on your DNA.

Does insurance cover these kind of tests?Most insurance companies do not cover broad pharmacogenomic testing. They may cover a single gene for medications that require testing before initiating therapy. Call your insurance company to verify coverage.

Do I need a provider order to get this test?No, but if you provider recommends you get testing, they can always fill out an order form. If you plan to submit the test for insurance reimbursement, you would need a provider order.
